Carvaci’ Green Coffee, Starting A New Retail Coffee Shop is Good Business Green Mountain
Roast Your Own Coffee
How hard is it to get set up?
The roaster’s small size and hard to get UL approval are big pluses for straight forward setup in nearly any retail location. Requiring only the space of a grinder or blender at just 11 1/4" wide x 21" deep x 26" tall it’s an easy fit for even the smallest of spaces. The unit weighs about 55lbs and operates on a non-dedicated, 110 volt circuit. You can order it in propane or natural gas versions depending on if you have natural gas at your location. About 90% of our customers don’t so most use the 20lb propane tanks (same as a barbeque). You can also use the little 5lb tanks or go with a great big 200 pounder. For our stores, we use a 40lb and keep a 20lb as a backup. The 40lb tank does about 250 roasts.

How much does it cost?
The roaster is $3995 and the optional hoods are $495.

Is it hard to roast?
Just the opposite! If you can press a button, you can roast.

What kind of coffee can I roast with it?
Although Carvaci’s blends are by far the best for this roaster, you can roast any kind of QUALITY green coffee! It roasts drips, decaf, espresso, single origins and even white coffee. And you can roast to whatever degree desired from Light Cinnamon to Dark French by simply setting the digital roast level on 1 through 9. The reason Carvaci’s Green Coffee works better is because they specifically developed their blends for roasting in the Cafe’ Roaster. Each bean in each blend is matched to compliment the others for even roasting. Green coffee beans have different moisture contents, density, mass & sizes so they all “cook” differently. By taking into account all the attributes of each single origin used in their blends they were able to eliminate those that didn’t roast evenly. This results in highly defined flavors for excellent tasting, ultra premium coffee!

How hard is the roaster to install?
It’s a super simple installation. Just about any handyman, contractor or fireplace installer can get the job done in a couple of hours. As a matter of fact, almost all of our customers have opted to handle the installation themselves. (There’s really not much to it for most locations) For those in malls or basements there’s a really nice looking hood assembly (priced above) that works excellent to force the output through longer distances of venting. For best results, remember to use “Type L“ venting!

What kind of warranty is there on the equipment?
There is a standard one year factory warranty.

What about parts and repairs?
Although we have yet to see one actually breakdown, we keep backup units on hand at all times for simple, immediate replacement. (It only takes a couple minutes for anyone to replace their roaster and the unit ships very well.) We also keep a full inventory of every replaceable part for quick shipment. Even in worst case scenarios, roasters aren’t like fridges & espresso machines that HAVE TO BE UP AT ALL TIMES. With our non-rotating bins you’ll always have a few days worth of coffee on hand thereby eliminating any possible panic situations. And since most of the technology used in the units was originally borrowed from well proven parts in existing equipment (like home furnaces) there’s nothing overly complex inside. This becomes a real plus if you should ever choose to have it fixed at your location since just about any moderately skilled appliance repair person could perform the simple repairs/replacements on the roaster.

How much can I expect to roast?
You can roast a lot! We ourselves roasted 200 lbs/week of our STTS espresso for both of our stores at our main location until we got tired of delivering it to the 2nd store and opted for another roaster. Now Grandfields roasts about 130lbs of espresso per week at our downtown store Monday thru Friday all before noon which is our busiest shift with only 2 employees on the floor. (***We do this so the roasting effects the highest amount of customers) Afternoon and weekend employees then roast another 75lbs or so for drip and whole bean coffee to sell to our customers. Allowing our customers to see and smell the roasting process is very advantageous for business so keeping the roaster running as much as possible really helps. This is just one of the big pluses of having a 1.4lb batch size. Another is safer operation due to less combustibles in the chamber and it’s also nice for doing custom roasts so you’re not left with extra laying around on a shelf going to waste. And probably the most important factor is the ability to keep the unit running more often thereby generating more smell & theatre which drives customer interest and excitement. With a bigger drum roaster you’d only roast once in awhile thereby rendering the roasting area dead the rest of the time. We actually recommend using the minimum amount possible per roast for this very reason. It’s all about the sizzle and the show! Also, it’s usually the owners that get stuck roasting with larger units due to the complexity and potential loss from larger mistakes. These are all very important factors! Besides, we’ve learned first hand that just about anybody with similar daytime hours like ours (5:00am to 6:00pm) can easily roast at least 200 - 250lbs per week on a Monday thru Friday schedule without stressing the operation or it’s employees. If you plan on growing beyond that or already use more, you may opt to install a 2nd unit and if so, kudos to you! The more you roast, the more you save!

Are there EPA requirements?
Nope. Unlike larger units there are no EPA requirements and therefore, no afterburners required.
